O’odham Language Lesson

O’odham is considered an endangered language. This is a problem because people who communicate in their own languages have a richer appreciation of their heritage and a deeper understanding of their culture. This lesson focuses on both the history and future of the O’odham dialect with an emphasis on plans to preserve it for future generations.

Students will explore O’odham grammar, O’odham words, the importance of O’odham storytelling, and how the O’odham language is being revitalized to continue their rich culture, traditions, and unification of the O’odham community.
