This image is of the “Story Robe”, a genuine artifact in the Amerind collection. A lot of the details require further research, but we believe the artist of this story robe was Katsikodi, a Shoshone man. Over 100 years ago, this elk hide was carefully prepared using traditional methods. It was staked to the ground to stretch it out, then carefully scraped and tanned. The artist then applied paints, derive from both commercial and natural sources, which were applied to the hair side of the hide. Images on the hide are believed to represent events within the tribal community.
