O’odham Art Forms – Part 1 History
This O’odham Art Forms Lesson examines the history and impact of art forms within the O’odham Nation. (H1.1). Students will explore O’odham basket weaving, storytelling, songs, poetry, pottery, painting, and music. Students can investigate the history of utilitarian art forms up to modern art forms. This lesson has a focus on notable O’odham using art to tell stories of their significant history, while preserving O’odham culture.

History /Social Science Standard
Learning Objectives:
H1.1 We will utilize a variety of sources to construct a historical narrative exploring Arizona’s cultures, civilizations, and innovations.
Reading RL.2 We will recount and paraphrase stories and poetry from diverse cultures; determine the central message, lesson, or moral and explain how it is conveyed through key details in text.
W.4 We will produce clear and coherent writing in which the development and organization are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.

This course is designed and presented with the goal that the material can be easily used by anyone. As a result, each lesson will present content in multiple ways to accommodate many different teaching styles and technology needs. For each lesson you will have the following options:
- Website Content – The lessons/worksheets/videos will be available to view inside of the website. You can read and use the lesson from this site.
- External Link – You will also have a link that directly links you to the resource (ie. Google Doc, Google Slide, YouTube Video)
- PDF Download Link – If the content is a handout or document, you will have access to a link to download the .pdf.
